Live connection issues
I cannot connect to live using a direct connection with a speedtouch 536 modem/router. I'm getting the DNS message. xbox support said I need to change the firewall settings on the modem but don't know how. Speedtouch helpine is no help (and too expensive to ring) - can anyone out there help? If not can anyone suggest a good modem/router for a direct connection which will work with tiscali and will let me just plug in and play.

ok no problem man, enter this into your browser, it will bring up the speed touch menu [Unverified link]5 Then click Toolbox on your left, click firewall, then click configure,under the speedtouch logo near top right,click disable, then apply, off you go :) Hope it helped.

i cannot connect to xbox live? the problem is that my modem is located inside the tower of my dell computer and the tower also connects to the phone line, and it keeps telling me that my IP has failed I dont know what to do could u please write bak and give me directions on how to connect thank you.

I have a similar problem,i can play xbox live with nearly every person across the world!!!! but somehow cant connect to my friend who lives down the road all its either says is connection is lost or host has disconected via trying either person to host what is the problem any ideas?????Johnny

my modem is seperate to my tower and where you plug the internet connection it is too small for my xbox live wire and i have tried to plug the xbox live wire in to my computer tower but it keeps saying on my xobox 360 i have not got a ip adress i dont know what to do can you please help me !

Yes,I can help ofcourse,but you have to tell more onformation like:
1)your ISP.
2)Type of connection(Wired,Wireless,shared to the PC).
3)The type of the modem or router.

It seems that LIVE is offline at this specific time, ive been onto the official xbox website forums and all that people are writing is that LIVE is down in the UK and even the US as it appears so your guess is as good as mine for the reason.
hopefully it should be back tomorrow LOL!

Live connection issues-AGAIN!
Please help, got an xbox360 elite for my lad for xmas, and am trying to connect online, can i connect through a laptop which is on a wireless network using the cable that came with the xbox? so far i have got through several stages: network adaptor is 'wired'
IP address is 'confirmed',
DNS though keeps failing??
can anyone help or do i need to splashout on the additional xbox wireless adaptor!!
i do have a Linksys wireless-G network adaptor, would that plug into the back of the xbox?

Man,Zone alarm is the enemy of the ICS.
Try to enter the DNS manually first.Go to:
1)System.
2)Network settings.
3)DNS.(Manual)
4)Type in the primary DNS1:192.168.0.1
and then test the Xbox live test.

did all that, but it still wont go past IP address?
it sees the network adaptor as wired, but it wont go any further?
All we have plugged in at the mo is the network cable, into the laptop.
do i not need to plug my Linksey Wireless-G network adaptor into the xbox?

I bought my son an xbox for christmas but seem to be having problems maintaining a wireless connection though AOL with a speedtouch 585 router the connection keeps dropping out .Also in the network settings screen when you do the test everything is working apart from the NAT is strict which means he is limited to what he can do I believe , how do I change this to OPEN.Hope someone can help Thanks

i am having similar problems, but when i test connection everything checks out ok, but when i try to sign in to Xbox LIVE, it comes up as 'cannont sign in to messenger' so then it goes back where it was before, saying 'connect to Xbox LIVE' i was playing in it a few hours ago, now it doesnt work!! am using a laptop with wireless connection and the cable i got with the Xbox 360 connected to my laptop to the xbox, plz Help!

when i try to connect to my friends in a party in call of duty 4 it tells me i cannot connect to host. but i can play with others who are not my friends. the problem is it tells me i cannot connect to host all the time and my connection is fine.

i am connecting to a modem and then into a phone line and into my xbox 360. My DNS settings are coming up failed when i click automatically i get my primary DNS server setting but not my secondary. My primary DNS code is the same as my gateway PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problems when i 1st got the net in with virgin. I had the xbox pluged into the modem with a ethernet cable and just upluged the power out a few times then if found xbox live. Now i have bought the (joytech control center 540c)which has a router built in the back and have the laptop with vista pluged in and the xbox pluged in and guess what its just the same as pulling the power out to see which one connects. I can only connect to the net with the xbox or the laptop , not at the same time , dont know what to do, tryed fire wall tryed all kinds of things and nothing only connect one machine at a time ,, my m8 said its the meg of broadband but if the xbox is connected to live surly the laptop can pick the net up..

Hi i have a same problem as a few otheres. When i do the conection test it all comes up ok. And when im on Halo i can log into messenger and see my friends list but i wont let me sign in on the Dash Board, it just says Cannot contect to Messenger and signs me out again. I have an AOL SpeedTouch Modem and i have assigned Xbox live to my Xbox on the modem home page. My fire wall is disabled but it still doesnt work and Help would be great. Or do i have to switch for AoHell?

Hi All, I have a Thompson Speedtouch 536 Modem Directly connected to my Xbox 360. I do the XBOX LIVE test and everything is sweet. If I just go from the xbox live screen or marketplace screen to connect to xbox live it shows the little spinning pic in the middle and then goes back to the same screen i was on with the same connect to xbox live option. Ok So If I press the guide button and connect to xbox live from there it will connect and I can see my messages and freinds and then after about 10 seconds it comes up saying disconnect from xbox live. I have gold membership brand new setup. I can recieve the message my friend send as well as the friend request it gives me enough time to accept it then just drops out. Im on a 20mbit internet connection in Australia with Bigpond. Using Wired connection to my speedtouch 536 modem. No Computer in between. Anyhelp would be sweet. my hotmail email is nimrod.aus

My router says im connected, and when I run the diagnostic on the dashboard it passes everything, but ever since i've gotten my 360 back from being repaired it won't show that im connected. It will sign in just fine with no errors, but after it signs in it just goes back to the button saying "connect to xbox live" again and nothing happens.

I have recently created a silver xbox live profile and when i sign in to it it works fine, but then when i try to play a game on live (call of duty) it wont let me play. I think this might be because I already have a gold profile (dont ask why i made a silver aswell). I need some help :)

and kieran, this same thing happened to me before, for me it was because i switched modems and it didnt work because i was plugging in one ethernet cord into my xbox, but it worked when i put an ethernet cord in the computer and put another one at the same time and put that in my xbox, i dunno, it worked for me :)

And when i press test connection on the xbox the Network, works but not the internet. and i have treyed all sugguest i get from the xbox and it doesent work but it also says that.
