Failed update download.
My xbox is connected to the internet . But i can't download an update An update I need to play online . But it says update failed, and to test your system connection. I do that and before that is done it tells me i need to get that same update (that doesn't download) or else it can't continue. so i don't know what to do. This is the first time if been on it in a while.
I want to play!!!

I'm having this same irritating problem. I've never had a problem downloading an update before... anyone have a solution? Please? :)And yes, it has been about a month since I've been online as well.

I'd been trying for about an hour, but not solidly trying, and I just kept doing it and it finally lagged a bit, like it has a few times before and I figured it would give me the update failed message, but while chatting on here I noticed I finally -was- getting the update. So I guess keep trying and be patient. :) Good luck!

Hey , the same thing is happening to me too. My connection's fine and all. I have my router and im connected , i click 'join xbox live' it says i need to download an update and the bar freezes after a sec , nothin happens then i get an error message to go to xbox/support website >_< and is driving me crazy, AND FOR CRYING OUT LOUD I FORMATED MY MEMORY!!! Just because someone said that it COULD work . -sigh-

This is Really Irritating, if anyone has a solution for this ill be very greatful.
Its Comforting to know other people are having the same problem, and everytime i try the bar goes up a tiny bit... and every now and then the Estimating Time Changes.
it started at 28 minutes, to 10, to 5, to 2, to 1, to 48. The bar isnt even a Quarter through. I watched a 3 minute movie too, and coming back at breaks to Try again.

Brand new XBOX360. Same problem, tried it with a wireless connection first and then the wired connection. All tests pass - what is wrong with Microsoft?

OK - I got it to work.
When I checked my router stats, I noticed that the Xbox was for some reason trying to use the same ip as the PC, i.e. it was not getting a unique address from the router dhcp. So.... I assigned it a static address outside the dhcp range and gave it its own DNS address to use. Worked first time after that.
Man that makes me made - MS have made a SERIOUS basic F%^K up. Try it and see if it resolves your issues - though I am sure there is more than one issue going on here.
